There are five and possibly even six ways to be injured by lightning.

-Direct strike

-Side splash from another object

-Contact voltage -from touching a struck object

-Ground current -effect as the energy spreads out across the surface of the earth or by being part of an upward lightning leader that does not connect with the main channel shockwave

-shock-the shock wave of the bolt can injure the victim even without electrifying him.

-electromagnetic-.New findings by a group of Colorado researchers indicate lightning could be the culprit in a number of unexplained fatal heart malfunctions in the outdoors in recent years, including some in the state's high mountains. Biophysical calculations by the research team indicate that in such cases, intense magnetic fields resulting from the lightning may induce fatal electrical currents entirely within the body.
